The Partners

Why DooWell? John & Reed have worked together for many years on various project. In 2020, the pair was working on a museum project with several other firms and found the process tedious and out-dated. They decided to scrap the project and start from scratch on their own— creating a simpler and more streamlined way to plan, design, and build. The project was a success and once it was completed, they decided to formalize the process and establish DooWell Consulting and Design.

  • John began studying story and narrative theory while earning degrees from the University of Tennessee in literature and philosophy. From there, he moved to South Korea where he helped start the children’s edu-tainment brand, Calm Island. He oversaw educational app development, curriculum development, as well as designing several interactive, educational play centers. Upon returning to the United States in late 2016, he became an Executive Producer for the production company Super Chief, where he helped to create several ongoing unscripted TV series. In 2018, John began focusing his resources on the non-profit sector in hopes of amplifying voices of social justice. He has created photo and video content for The Trust for Public Land, Chattanooga Organized for Action, Stoveworks, Lyndhurst Foundation, and many others. He now works full time with Songbirds Foundation helping to document their work with schools and music therapy as well as catalogue their extensive instrument collection. Most recently he oversaw and created the visual/interactive experience that is the new Songbirds Guitar and Pop Culture Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His skill set includes project management, documentary production and post-production, graphic design, motion graphics, and writing. An outdoor enthusiast, you’re likely to find John trail running, climbing, disc golfing, or foraging for mushrooms in his spare time.

  • Reed Caldwell is currently the Executive Director of the Songbirds Foundation in Chattanooga, TN. This guitar and pop culture based museum thrives on great storytelling, wonderful visuals, one-of-a-kind guitars, and amazing vintage gear. All profits are used to provide free guitars, lessons, music therapy, and other musical resources to thousands of students across the south. Reed has a Master’s Degree in Management from the S.I.T. Graduate Institute and has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 20 years. While most of his career has focused on the arts, he also helped found Bardoli Global, a nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating study abroad and community leadership programs for historically underrepresented students. Reed was also a principal fundraiser and supporter of the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in Oxford, MS and the co-founder of the Piney Knob Biking and Hiking Trail System in Murphy, NC. He also worked at the John C. Campbell Folk School where he spearheaded the building and renovation of ten art studios and historic structures. Reed believes that art and music education are extremely important avenues to individual growth and community interaction, and that art should be easily accessible to everyone. A Mississippi native, Reed enjoys writing, woodworking, skateboarding, kayaking, and has played guitar for 32 years. Reed and his wife, Kathleen Nolte, also own 12 Crows Artist Collective in Rossville, GA.
